Water Filter Nitrate Removal NRC 10" for Drinking Taps

The NRC is a brine regenerable R/O polishing cartridge constructed totally of FDA-grade materials and media. It will remove virtually all of the nitrates, nitrites, and sulfates from tap water or R/O product water for approximately 7500 ppm.

To determine gallons, divide 7500 ppm by the total ppm of nitrates plus sulfates (as CaCO ) to be removed. The result is the number of gallons that can be treated with complete nitrate/sulfate removal. The NRC is particularly useful as an R/O polisher (since membrane rejection of nitrates can be limited) or in waters containing low sulfates. The NRC can be regenerated using sodium chloride brine.

The typical reduction of nitrate-based is determined on an average of 2 litres per minute throughput. It is recommended that the filter is changed at least every 4 months

NRC Regeneration


Nitrate Removal Cartridge – Regeneration Instructions
The NRC cartridge contains Purolite A-520E Strong Base Anion Exchange Resin which can be regenerated once its ability to remove Nitrate is reduced. As most NRC cartridges are installed in twin sump units (to enable an additional activated carbon filter to address any concentrations of pesticides, organics, tastes, and odors that may also be present in the drinking water), regeneration is a simple operation using common salt.


When to Regenerate


Regenerated resin is capable of removing approximately 8,000 milligrams of Nitrate (as NO3). The chemical analysis that identified the excessive Nitrate levels will have reported concentrations in milligrams per litre (mg/l) or parts per million (ppm). Simply divide 8,000 by that reported Nitrate concentration to determine the number of litres throughput before further regeneration is required. 
e.g. If the Nitrate concentration is 35 then 8,000/35 = 225 litres throughput before regeneration is required.
Note: if the concentration is reported as Nitrate Nitrogen (NO3-N) then multiply that figure by 4.55 to obtain the Nitrate concentration (as NO3), before dividing that figure into 8,000
